Had a photowalk in Chow Kit area with a friend last Saturday and we came to a kopitiam and had our breakfast. On that day I decided to leave my SLR camera at home so I could get myself to do some sketches whenever I could. I know I had not done something like this on a photowalk but it is for a change. It is a calm and patient way to capture an image even though it is slower as compared to using a camera.
While my friend went about taking pictures in and out of the building I quieted myself down at my seat and drew. The drawing process required so much more patience and concentration than taking pictures, actually, in order to get the lines, shapes and space right. In one and a half hours here it is, a picture of the kitchen and cashier counter view from my table and a cup and the second cup of drink, milk tea my friend ordered.
The final touch to the drawings was a few splashes from the leftover milk tea. It sounds like a crazy idea but I like the effect.

I am a graphic designer and illustrator based in Malaysia. I do corporate design for clients – from logo design to infographic, from editorial layout to presentation slide designs. For illustrations, I do both digital vector and hand-drawn cartoon styles. When I do draw on paper, I use fountain pens. My creative ideas usually come in my sleep or during a hot shower.
To keep myself creative, I love to ground myself in nature, get some sun, breathe some fresh air and walk barefoot on the grass. Or have some cuddle time with my vainpot cat named Barley. Or get my hands dirty in my garden, talk to the plants and sometimes the bees and dragonflies. Or lay down in bed and read some personal growth book.
I love traveling, usually solo, whenever I get a chance for a getaway. My dream is to travel around the world, and learn new things that all my 5 senses can ever experience.
I am currently based in my hometown, Miri, Sarawak after moving out from Kuala Lumpur city that I had made my second home for the past 2 decades since college. Apart from the fresher air quality, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, I get to enjoy some of the most beautiful sunsets ever.
